Before going to the gym you want to ensure the skin is clean and makeup-free because the pores open up due to the rise in body temperature while you exercise. This means anything on the surface of the skin will seep down deep into the skin and you don’t want makeup mixed with sweat and other debris clogging pores.

So, before a workout make sure the skin is clean and all you really need is sunscreen for skin protection.

During a workout keep these things in mind to keep skin clean and problem-free:

Use a towel to wipe away excess sweat

Choose a towel that has antibacterial, absorb and quick-drying properties — look for microfiber or cotton. By keeping excess sweat away from the face, the skin can breathe and pores remain unclogged.

Afterwards, make sure to wash your hands.

Drink lots of water

The body loses a lot of fluid due to heat and sweating, so it’s important to drink lots of water during workouts. It’s important for skin health too.

If you have sensitive skin or skin that flares up during workouts, use a calming facial mist through the exercise to keep the skin calm and hydrated.

Always Do A Full Skincare Routine After Working Out

Arguably one of the most important skincare tips for the gym: wash your face properly right after working out. I would advise doing a double cleanse to be on the safe side.

Follow up with a full skincare routine (aka serum, moisturizer, SPF) and focus on using gentle and hydrating products. Avoid any active skincare products such as AHAs, BHAs and retinol because the skin is extra delicate right after a workout. Save these for your PM routine.
