If you have limited time in Jaipur, Amer Fort is the one site to make time for. Amer Fort (also known as the Amber Palace) is a UNESCO World Heritage site in Jaipur, India. Constructed in 1592 by Raja Man Singh I, the fort is an exquisite example of Rajput and Mughal architecture. The fort is expansive and divided into four courtyards.

Jal Mahal (Water Palace)

Located about 30-40 minutes by car from the city center, Amer Fort is on a hilltop with views of the surrounding Aravalli hills and Maotha Lake. Visit either early morning or late afternoon/evening because it is hot in the late morning and afternoon. In the late afternoon around 4-4.30 pm you can catch the sunset from the fort and see the fort lit up as night falls. As you approach the fort, there will be guides offering their services and it is recommended to visit the fort with a guide to understand its history and architecture.

Tip: Stop by Jal Mahal (Water Palace), a palace in the center of a lake with four levels submerged under water. While visitors can’t go inside the palace, it’s a nice spot for photos and views.
