How To Do The ‘French Girl Makeup’ Look For Hot And Humid Weather
Here’s a quick and easy French makeup look. I’m fascinated by beauty trends and makeup styles from different parts of the world because I always learn a new tip or technique. In this post, I’m sharing my version of the French girl look and how to adapt it for hot and humid weather.

What is the French makeup style?
French makeup or “French girl makeup” is natural and minimal; it focuses on highlighting the features in a subtle way and embracing the natural textures of the skin. The skin is front and centre and the goal is to make it look healthy and glowy. So, you might have guessed it already, skin prep is an important step as well as using cream products to achieve the most natural look. However, cream products do not perform well in hot weather, so I made a few small changes to help the makeup last in the heat and humidity.
What makeup products to use for the French girl look?
This is why I’m a big fan of the French makeup style — you only use a few products and the end result is very lightweight on the skin. The thing that surprised me the most: you don’t need foundation! The skin base is done with some concealer in key spots and that’s pretty much it.
Here’s a list of the products commonly used to achieve this look:
- Concealer
- Loose Powder
- Lip balm / tint
- Lipstick
- Brown or black eyeliner
- Mascara
- Blush
- Highlighter
French girl makeup tutorial for hot and humid weather
Step 1: Prep the skin with moisturizer, sunscreen and lip balm.
Step 2: Apply concealer under the eyes, around the nose and lips. Spot conceal, if you need it. Blend out using fingers. It’s okay, if your natural skin texture is showing up — that’s the whole point 🙂
Step 3: Dust the face lightly with a loose powder and set the concealer. To the touch, the skin should feel velvety and that’s how you know everything is set.
Step 4: Apply a powder blush in a big “W” shape from the back of the cheek bones across the nose to the other side. It should look like a natural flush of pink like you’ve been running or out in the sun, so try to use a glowy blush or mineral blush. Optional: apply highlighter on the cheekbones, nose and brow bone.
Step 5: Line the top of eyes with a cat wing in brown or black. How small or big is up to you.
Step 6: Apply mascara on top and bottom lashes
Step 7: Apply a lip balm or lip stick. For a minimal natural look, opt for a rosy lip balm. To amp up the look, apply a bolder red lipstick.
Step 8: Use a makeup setting spray to set the makeup — this is optional.
