Cafes and Restaurants in Bangkok Where I Hang Out With My Dog and Kid
Living in the heart of a concrete jungle where malls hugely outnumber the parks (what parks?!) and where most establishments do not allow pets indoors, leaves us parents with fur and human babies a bit angered, confused and lost on where to take both for an outing.
After some exploring, I have discovered some dog-and-kid-friendly spots in the Sukhumvit area where I take both my kids on a lazy weekend afternoon; I thought it would be helpful to share my finds for my fellow pet parents living in Bangkok.
Fortunately or unfortunately — I’ll leave that to you to decide — most of the places I found are food and drink venues so there’s not much in terms of activities or space to play for both kids and pets, but I guess it’s better than nothing. In no particular order, here’s my list:
Luka Moto
New to the neighborhood and located in The Taste Complex on Thonglor Soi 11, Luka Moto is a modern cafe opened in partnership with BMW (the second branch of the popular Luka Bangkok cafe located in Sathon). There are stylish big bikes dotted around the cafe giving it an overall burly yet welcoming vibe. The decor of the cafe is best described as “garage chic” with exposed brick walls, metal chairs and wood grain table tops. Luka Moto serves up a wide variety of tasty comfort all-day foods including breakfast burritos, grilled cheese sandwich and sweet and savory French toast as well as healthier options such as the sweet potato nachos and quinoa salad. Make your meal a boozy one with Luka Moto’s selection of unique cocktails and or a healthy one with delicious smoothies.
There are high chairs for kids. Dogs are welcome inside the restaurant which was a very pleasant surprise. Note: there is no outdoor section.

Roast / The Commons Thonglor
Occupying the top floor of The Commons complex in Thonglor Soi 17, Roast is now a seasoned veteran of Bangkok’s all-day dining scene. Simplistic, natural and airy, Roast is very reminiscent of a New York cafe. The variety on the menu is second to none; some popular favourites include smashed avocado toast, butternut squash gnocchi, papardelle salad and the sugar snap pea salad. Be sure not to miss out on the coffee either — everything is excellent but the iced espresso latte is especially incredible.
All the kid-friendly basics are provided: high chairs, kids utensils, kid-friendly menu and even space to run around. Dogs are welcome if you are seated outside. Don’t worry — huge fans are set up to help beat the heat and the staff offer water bowls for your fur baby. There is also a little grass patch nearby on the top floor where you can walk your dog — be sure to clean up after.

D’ARK at Emquartier
Perhaps the cafe with the highest volume of kids and dogs per square foot in its outdoor section in the Sukhumvit area, D’ARK at Emquartier is the hangout hub for families with fur and human kids. With an overall minimalist modern cafe vibe, D’ARK offers lounge-style outdoor sofas and stools as well as indoor seating. The menu is huge with lots of variety in Western and Asian cuisine for all-day dining — a few tried and tested vegetarian favourites include Brioche Pain Perdu, Menama Eggs, Salsa Toasts and Quinoa Power Bowl. All the coffee offerings are great too.
Sitting outdoors gives kids the space to play and explore freely. Dogs are welcome outdoors. The staff is super friendly and offer water bowls too.

K-Village
A large community mall located in the back of Sukhumvit Soi 26, K-Village was probably one of the first mall-type establishments built with the idea that pets should be welcome too. It has a lot of restaurants, cafes and stores as well as salons and a supermarket to explore. There’s a dedicated area for dogs mingle freely and do their business and right next to it is a small playground for children. Due to the open concept, kids have enough space to run around and explore while pets can walk all around the complex on a leash. Most weekends there’s a farmers market and other interesting events going on in the centre of K-Village, it’s a great place to hangout in the afternoon and evenings on weekends.

Greyhound at J-Avenue Thonglor (currently closed for renovation)
Bangkok’s most renowned cafe/restaurant chain, Greyhound is a favourite haunt for everyone. Draped in tones and textures of black, white and grey, the restaurant decor is an eclectic mix of urban and street. And don’t miss the funny quotes on the servers uniforms. The pioneer for mixing Thai and Western flavours, the all-day dining menu boasts mouth watering dishes with a unique fusion of style and substance. You will be very, very happy and satisfied after a meal here. There’s a vegetarian menu with a great selection too. Some favourites include: bruschetta, Sandwich in a Bowl, Tokyo Soba, Spicy Pesto Penne Pasta, Mushroom Fried Rice and don’t miss the buttery waffles for dessert. If you’re too full, maybe add a frozen cappuccino to go to enjoy later.
The branch at J-Avenue in Thonglor Soi 15 has plenty of outdoor seating, making it quite dog-friendly. The servers are very friendly and will bring over a high chair for the little human one.

Toby’s on Sukhumvit Soi 38
A small, unexpected cafe located deep inside Sukhumvit Soi 38, Toby’s is a brunch cafe offering a “small town chic” appeal with its rustic barn-esque exteriors. Warm and cosy in size and vibe, be sure to either book a table or beat peak hours on weekends. The menu is smaller in comparison to other cafes but each item is delicious and beautifully plated — the avocado toast and crispy French brioche toast are highly recommended. The coffee is amazing too.
Dogs are welcome outdoors. However, the outdoor stool seating isn’t the most comfortable and in the peak of the afternoon the sun shines quite brightly and it can get quite hot for pets. So if you’re bringing a furry friend along, come prepared.
