What is natural makeup?
Natural makeup is all about being minimalist with the amount of makeup on the face. These types of makeup looks have a ‘barely there’ vibe and it’s totally fine for natural skin texture and hyperpigmentation (freckles, spots etc) to show.
Here’s are two examples of natural makeup looks
The first look is very natural without anything on the eyes (except mascara), concealer, powder, and lip gloss.
The second look has more going on with makeup on the eyes, blush, bronzer and nude lip.

What is neutral makeup?
It refers to the tones of color used in the look such as brown, grey, taupe, nude, pink etc. The key thing to know is that neutral makeup can be simple or glam and usually complements warm and cool toned outfits.
Examples of neutral makeup looks
The makeup looks below are quite similar, but you can see that in the first example, which is a more glam version, I am wearing a red dress — a warm tone — and the makeup complements the look.
The second look is a simpler neutral makeup look; paired with a black outfit and the makeup works with cool tones too.
In conclusion
Whether you’re doing makeup for yourself or using a pro MUA, knowing the difference is important, so that you know what to expect when you ask for natural vs neutral makeup.
