Makeup Tips For Mature Skin
What is mature skin? Skin changes as we get older. The elastic and collagen in our skin cells, which help maintain the skin’s elasticity (aka “tightness”), reduces as we age and that is what causes skin to slowly become looser. The skin becomes more fragile and thin, so it is more prone to damage from the sun and other elements. This results in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots and hyperpigmentation.
Keeping all of these facts in mind, here are some helpful tips on how to prep and wear makeup on mature skin:

Hydration is key for mature skin
Mature skin tends to be dry and thin, so makeup can catch in the fine lines much quicker. To counter this, make sure to moisturize the face, around the eyes, and lips really well before makeup application. When skin is well hydrated it looks plump, healthy and younger and makeup performs a lot better too.
Use less product and work in thin layers to avoid cakey makeup and emphasizing fine lines
Don’t pile on thick makeup on skin assuming it will “hide” the signs of aging. If anything, this will emphasize fine lines, make the skin look even older and leathery. Use less product and build it up in thin layers. Choose liquid and cream products with thinner formulas because these will blend much better into aging skin and look more natural. Use a translucent loose powder to set makeup very lightly to minimize the makeup from moving around and setting into fine lines.
Don’t be afraid to colour correct to neutralize sun spots and pigmentation
Depending on skin tone, use a colour corrector to neutralize sun spots, dark circles and pigmentation. For light to fair skin tones, use a peach corrector. For medium to tan skin tones, use an orange corrector. For deep to dark skin tones, use a red corrector. Colour correcting will reduce the appearance of spots/lines and help the skin look more even and bright.

Apply blush slightly above the apples of the cheeks to add a natural sun-kissed radiance to the skin
Wear blush just slightly above the apples of the cheeks and blend back towards the cheekbone. Add a little to the bridge of the nose too. This will help the skin look healthy and radiant.
Use highlighter with caution because it can emphasize texture
Highlighter is a shimmery product and emphasizes texture such as wrinkles and bumps. Only us it lightly on the areas of the face where the skin is smooth and even.
Be brave and contour with a matte bronzer to sculpt and lift the face
Don’t be scared to contour — use your judgement and see where it works best for you. Use an angled brush with a matte neutral bronzer and get to sculpting. Here are the common areas of the face you can contour: cheekbones, temples, forehead, and jawline. Contouring will help the face appear lifted and toned.
Fill in eyebrows and keep the eye makeup matte and simple.
Fuller eyebrows makes the face look younger, so be sure to fill them in. Avoid anything shimmery on mature skin with fine lines / wrinkles because it will emphasize the texture even more. Keep eye makeup matte and use browns / mauves because these look the most natural on aging skin. If you’re using kohl or eyeliner on the lower waterline, set it using a flat brush and eyeshadow, so it doesn’t smudge or budge. And don’t forget mascara!
